The legal drinking age in Texas is 21.

 

What time can you buy liquor in Texas?

Liquor stores in Texas are allowed to operate between the hours from 10 AM to 9 PM Monday through Saturday. Liquor stores are not allowed to operate on Sundays. It’s against Texas law.

 

Are liquor stores open on Sunday in Texas?

No. Liquor stores are not allowed to operate or sell liquor on Sundays according to Texas Law. Even with the passage of The 87th Texas Legislature House Bill 1518, this did not include liquor or liquor stores. This only pertained to win and beer sales.

 

Alcohol Laws for Minors

In Texas, it is illegal for a minor to purchase alcohol, for a minor to possess alcohol in a public place, and for a minor to consume alcohol in a public place.

It is also illegal for a minor to be in a licensed premises (e.g. a bar or nightclub) unless accompanied by a parent or guardian.

 

Possession of alcohol by a minor:

Class C misdemeanor, punishable by a fine of up to $500.

 

Consumption of alcohol by a minor:

Class C misdemeanor, punishable by a fine of up to $500.

 

Attempting to purchase alcohol as a minor:

Meaning if your a minor who attempts to buy alcohol, or use a fake ID to purchase alcohol, or to misrepresent their age in order to purchase alcohol, you can be charged with a Class A misdemeanor.

Penalties for a Class A misdemeanor include a fine of up to $4,000 and up to 1 year in jail.

 

Being in a bar or nightclub without an accompanied by a parent or guardian:

You can’t be in a bar unless you with a parent or guardian. Penalties for this violation is a Class B misdemeanor and can include a fine of up to $2,000 and up to 180 days in jail.
